How to Hang Artwork (without damaging your walls)

Hanging artwork is a great way to add personality and style to your home or office, but it's important to make sure that you do it without damaging the walls. Fortunately, there are a few simple tips that can help you hang your artwork with confidence and ease.

Choose the Right Hardware

Before you start hanging your artwork, make sure that you have the right hardware for the job. For lighter pieces, picture hangers, double-sided mounting tape, or command strips can work well, but for heavier pieces, you'll need to use picture hooks or anchors. When choosing your hardware, be sure to consider the weight of your artwork and the type of wall that you're hanging it on. You can purchase picture hanging kits.

Find the studs: If you're hanging a heavy piece of artwork, you'll want to find the studs behind the wall to support it. You can use a stud finder to locate the studs, or you can tap on the wall to listen for the solid sound of a stud. Once you've found the studs, mark their location with a pencil so that you know where to place your hardware.

Measure Carefully

Before you start hanging your artwork, measure the area where you want to hang it, and make sure that you have all the measurements you need. This includes the height and width of the artwork, the distance between the hooks or anchors, and the distance between the artwork and the wall. I sometimes like to use painter's tape or masking tape to mark the hangers and then place them on the wall so I don't have to mark the walls.

Use a level

To make sure that your artwork is hanging straight, use a level. This will help you align your hardware and ensure that your artwork is hanging at the right height.

Protect Your Walls

To protect your walls from damage, use picture hangers or double-sided mounting tape that are specifically designed to be gentle on walls. If you're using picture hooks or anchors, be careful not to over-tighten the screws, as this can cause damage to the wall.

By following these simple tips, you can hang your artwork with confidence and enjoy your beautiful new display for years to come. So get creative, and have fun decorating your space!
